HistoryNineteen members of the newly emerging Chemical Engineering profession met at the Engineers' Club in Philadelphia on June 22, 1908 and founded AIChE National. Read about the history, vision and mission of AIChE National. The Puget Sound Section of AIChE was founded in 1947. Our Section currently has about 350 members. JurisdictionAccording to Section Bylaws, the boundaries of the Section encompass: Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, Pierce, Thurston, Mason, Jefferson, Clallum, and Grays Harbor Counties of the State of Washington. DuesMembership dues are $25 per year, payable with annual dues to AIChE National. MeetingsDinner meetings are held monthly, generally on the second Tuesday from September through May. Dinner meeting topics vary. Some recent meeting topics have ranged from highly technical case studies from the Process Industries, to finance/investing, career management, biotechnology, and science fiction writing. Officer and Committee meetings occur as needed. Officers/ Committee Members and other interested members establish each season's meeting agenda during the Summer months. All interested members are welcome to attend planning sessions. The Local Section has hosted numerous AIChE National meetings. Most recently, we hosted the National Officers Conference (1998) and the Summer National Meeting (1996). Other ServicesOur Local Section coordinates a Minority Scholarship Program, provides a review course for Professional Engineering licensing, assists in matching employers with job seekers, and performs some outreach in raising community awareness of Chemical Engineering. National RepresentativesOur Section has the distinction of being the home Section for Bruce Finlayson, Ph.D, a recent past AIChE National President. Other Local Section members, Charlie Brown, P.E., a two-time past Local Section Chair, and Tapas Das, Ph.D, Past Chair, recently served on the Board for the AIChE National Environmental Division. Please volunteer!The success of our Section is directly proportional to the level of involvement of our members! Volunteer opportunities range from small, discrete tasks as Committee Members to Committee Chairs, to multi-year commitments as a Local Section Officer.
