2006 – 2007 National AIChE Minority Scholarship Award Application (for Incoming College Freshman)

Rules and Criteria Governing the AIChE

Scholarship Award for Incoming Freshman

 

  1. Students must be a member of a minority group that is under-represented in chemical engineers, i.e. African-American, Hispanic, Native American, and Alaskan Native.  Students must be high school seniors during 2006-2007 academic year and plan to enroll during the 2007-2008 academic year in a four-year college or university offering a science/engineering degree. Students are encouraged to choose classes leading to a degree in chemical engineering.

 

  1. The selection of awards recipients will be based on the following criteria:

a) The student’s academic record, minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.

b) The student’s participation in school and/or outside jobs/activities as outlined in the students letter and in the letter of recommendation from a high school counselor, math teacher or science teacher.

c) The student’s reason (s) for choosing science/engineering, as outlined in the student’s letter.

d) The students financial need as outlined in a letter from the parental or legal guardian, listing financial resources for educational support.

 

3.        Individual awards for the full academic year will be $1, 000. Awards will be announced by June 2007, and payment disbursed to each student upon receipt of a copy if the proof of 2006 fall semester college registration.

Instructions for submitting an Application

 

A complete application for the 2006-2007 AICHE Minority Scholarship Award will contain a copy  a copy of each of the following items (each letter should contain an original signature):

 

1.        From the student:

a) A completed application form (this form)

b) A letter not to exceed 300 words outlining the following:

*   College or university chosen to attend; when and why.

*   Reason (s) for choosing science/engineering.

*   Possible career choices that may be of interest.

c) List of school, job and/or civic activities and positions held.

d) Official transcript of high school grades

 

2.        From the parent or guardian:

a) A letter verifying financial need. Please include a list of financial resources for educational support.

 

3.        A letter of recommendation from the high school counselor, math teacher or science teacher containing, but not limited to, the following:

a) Verification of the student’s GPA and graduation date.

b) Verification of the high school senior class average grade.

(If confidential, High School Counselor statement is required).

c) Confirmation of minority group of student.

d) Information about the student’s school, job and/or other civic activities.

 

The deadline to submit this application for is April 20 2007 to the Local Chapter
