COST: $25.00 TOPIC: Chemical Plant Accident Investigation A significant reality concerning chemical accidents is that these situations are dominated initially by response and containment activities to minimize damage to surrounding areas, to save lives, to notify proper authorities, establish media communications, and numerous other details before an investigation can begin Based upon the presenter’s personal experience in the chemical industry and in actual chemical responses the presentation will identify some key guidelines and principles for an effective response and investigation. Colorful slides will also review chemical release scenarios and factors contributing to the accidents. ABOUT THE PRESENTER Maurice L. Greiner Prior to his retirement in 1996, Maurice Greiner was Vice President and Senior Loss Control Consultant with Johnson and Higgins in Seattle, Washington for 10 years. He provided risk control consulting for the chemical industry, mining, utilities and heavy construction projects. Prior to that he was Director of Safety and Loss Control in the nitrogen and phosphate industry, producing products such as anhydrous ammonia, ammonium nitrate, urea, acids and a variety of phosphatic fertilizer products.The author of numerous nomographs, papers and symposia dealing with safety with nitrogen containing compounds, Mr. Greiner has also acted as an technical expert on ammonium nitrate, and has represented the AIChe on various committees and boards, all related to chemical safety.
