The Pulp and Paper Industry in China Construction of the first modern kraft pulp mill in the Peoples Republic of China
Date
Tuesday, February 14, 2006
TopicIn 1994 there were approximately 12 thousand small scale chemical pulp mills in China and they were a major source of water pollution for the country. A project to establish the first modern kraft mill to serve as a model for a new industry and also reduce poverty in the poorest area of the nation was financed by Asian Development Bank and constructed in southern Yunnan Province. The project included a kraft mill, chemical plant, salt mine, power plant, tree farm, silviculture laboratory and 120 km highway through the remote mountains in Southwest China. This presentation will cover the progress over the past 10 years and some of China's plans for the future. Randy Schroeder was the principle consultant for the Asian Development Bank on the project.
SpeakerRandy Schroeder is an independent consultant to the pulp and paper industry and resides in Snohomish, Washington.
