Date

Tuesday, October 12, 2004

Speaker

Linda J. Graham, Director of the Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition

http://pugetsoundcleancities.org/

Ms. Graham has been serving as Director of the Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition since 1997. Her work with the Coalition has involved public education, technical assistance to agencies and fleets, grant writing, and legislative efforts at the federal and state levels. Highlights of this work include drafting and successfully lobbying for the passage of state legislation to provide incentives for alternative fuels, assisting the City of Seattle in developing its Clean Green Fleet policies, consulting with the Port of Seattle on its natural gas vehicle program, and working with eastern Washington farmers on the development of agricultural feedstocks for biodiesel production. She has a masters in Public Policy and a JD in law from the University of Washington.

Program

The talk will cover everything from what is biodiesel, how is it made and how is it used - to its air quality, energy security and other benefits - to the economic development role in WA state, including growth of agricultural feedstocks and biodiesel production in the state. The Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition is working to advance air quality, public health, energy security and economic development goals by promoting the implementation of policies and practices that contribute to the reduction of petroleum consumption. Clean Cities efforts include the promotion of alternative fuels and vehicles, fuel blends, fuel efficiency, hybrid electric vehicles, and idle reduction strategies. The Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition is a collaboration of public and private agencies and businesses operating in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and more than 80 other communities as part of the national Clean Cities Program. The Coalition provides education, research, technical assistance, access to grant funds, and other services to assist in the implementation of alternative fuels and other related programs.
