Waste Heat Recovery: Economics and System Design

Featuring: Bill Carson, P.E., Direct Contact Inc.

Date

Tuesday, November 9, 2004

Speaker

Bill Carson, Founder and Principal of DCI (Direct Contact Inc.)

Bill Carson has been in the waste heat recovery business since 1992, having previously been engaged in process engineering (Carson Engineering) and technical sales. DCI was founded to address the need for heat recovery systems, which save fuel, money and CO2 emissions by recovering heat from vents, boiler flue gas and other heat vents that have traditionally been considered too insignificant to deal with.  Mr. Carson, a long time member of our local section, holds a BS from the University of Washington in Chemical Engineering.

Program

The talk will describe waste heat recovery, the economics and feasibility, the equipment, systems and control schemes.  Some of the relevant aspects of heat transfer, applicable to designing these systems, are covered. Case histories of successful systems are described, along with their economic impacts.
