Tuesday, January 14, 2003SpeakerJim Griffing, Associate Technical Fellow, Manufacturing Research and Development for Payloads and Interiors, Boeing Commercial Airplanes ProgramRecent multi-million dollar improvements to overhead stowage bin systems are used to illustrate applied research and development activities at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Generation of concepts, fabrication of proof-of-concept prototypes, structural testing, and implementation issues are discussed. About the SpeakerJim Griffing is an Associate Technical Fellow working in Manufacturing Research and Development for Payloads and Interiors at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Jim holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. His work experience includes two years with Chemical Fabrics Corporation in Bennington, Vermont and nearly 15 years with The Boeing Company in Everett, Washington. Jim holds two US Patents and has presented his research at several international conferences. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Composites Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers and is a member of the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering.
