Where Do Plastics Go When They Die?

September 13, 2006

Speaker

Tom Watson, King County Solid Waste Division

About the Speaker and Topic

King County Solid Waste Division's Tom Watson, who writes the EcoConsumer column for the Seattle Times, will talk about plastics from a waste management perspective. Do those recycling symbols and numbers on the bottom of plastic containers really mean they are recyclable? How are plastics collected and processed for recycling? Why are polystyrene take-out containers banned by some cities in California and Oregon? Why has plastic-bag waste become a hot international issue?
