Holiday Social and Networking Meetings

Seattle or Bellingham

Tuesday, December 12, 2006

Bellingham

From Andrew Sloley: "For a December meeting in Bellingham a dinner meeting at the Boundary Bay Brewery has been proposed. Skylarks in Fairhaven is also a possibility if people prefer. This is a strictly social meeting scheduled for December 12th. E-mail me a reply if you are interested so I can get the right number of people for the reservation. How does 6:00 sound for those that are interested?"

Contact Andrew Sloley at Veco for details on location.  e-mail: andrew.sloley@veco.com

Seattle -- Brewery Tour and Networking Meeting with the Seattle Section of ASME

from Mark_Mierzejewski@URSCorp.com

"For those of you who are not attending the Bellingham-area festivities announced in an earlier e-mail:

This month the ASME is planning a tour of the under-construction Elysian Fields brewery in Pioneer Square, Seattle. AIChE members are welcome to attend this meeting as well.

**There is no signup, you should just show up at the brewery at 6 pm and tell the host/hostess that you're with the "Engineer's Tour." **After the tour, we'll have a social dinner in the attached bar/restaurant.

There will not be an "official" AIChE meeting this month. We will pick up again next month with a meeting about Patents and Technology Licensing, that meeting will be held in Seattle on Jan 9, probably at Ivar's on the Waterfront. Details of that meeting will follow in a later announcement.

Information about the brewery tour is below. Note that I am not the organizer, I'm just passing on this information. I will also pass along any updates, if there are any.

I hope to see some AIChE members at the brewery on Dec 12! If I don't see you, Happy Holidays!"

* Tuesday, 12 December Dinner Meeting: Brewery Tour: The Elysian

Fields Brewery, 542 First Avenue South, Seattle The Elysian Fields is a new brewpub, under construction in Pioneer Square. While the public house and restaurant already serve food and locally-brewed beer, the brewhouse itself will not begin operations until early next year.

Brewery construction should be in the final stages at the time of this tour. The Elysian Fields Brewing Co. is owned by Head Brewer Dick Cantwell, who worked at the Pike Place Brewery before opening his own brewpubs. The original Elysian, on Seattle’s Capitol Hill, has won many awards in the ten years since it opened. The Tangletown Elysian, in Seattle's Green Lake neighborhood, has been serving food and its own brews since the early part of this decade. Dick Cantwell receives special mention in the current edition of Northwest Brewing News, which describes him as "...one of the Northwest's most innovative brewers.”

The brewhouse space of Elysian Fields is smaller than the counterparts at the Capitol Hill and Tangletown Elysians, so this is our chance to see how a master brewer designs and builds his dream homebrewing operation. Reservations are not required for this tour; however, on entry, each member should inform the host or hostess that he or she is with the Engineer's Tour. The tour will begin at 6 PM. The Elysian Fields has entrances on both the First Avenue South and Occidental Avenue South sides of the building. Parking may be easier to find on the latter side. (On the Occidental Avenue South side, the entrance is half-way between the north stairs into Qwest Field and F.X. McCrory's).
